Lisa Lubin is a three-time Emmy-award-winning television writer/producer/editor/video consultant with more than fifteen years of experience. Lisa has recently launched LLmedia Video Consulting and is now using her expertise to help others improve their video for the web & their business. She produces a variety of broadcast specials, including, most recently, food & restaurant segments for Chicago’s Best on WGN-TV. For nearly ten years, Lisa produced an award-winning weekly lifestyles, travel, and entertainment magazine show on ABC Chicago.
After 15 years in television, she took a sabbatical of sorts, which turned into 3+ years traveling and working her way around the world. Lisa writes about travel and the (mis)adventures that ensue as she traipses around the globe on her travel website, LLworldtour.com, which has readers from all over the world. She was interviewed live on WGN-TV’s Morning News and ABC’s Good Morning America about travel. Her site was a finalist in the 2008 Weblog Awards and listed as one of nationally-syndicated-columnist, Chris Elliott’s, Travel Blogs I Can’t Live Without and Top 20 Most-Inspirational Blogs.”
Lisa has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Frommers.com, the Chicago Daily Herald, the NJ Daily Record, Women on the Road, The Travel Chicks Radio Show, Amateur Traveler Podcast and Chicagoist. Furthermore, her articles and photographs have been published by Sunset Magazine, Smithsonian Online, The Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Go Nomad, Brave New Traveler, and Briefcase to Backpack. Lisa’s writing is also syndicated on Encyclopedia Britannica, the Huffington Post, USAToday, and eHow.
Lisa has teamed up with Whole Foods, REI, and Hostelling International for ‘traveling solo’ talks and several ‘Travel & Food’ lectures. She also hosts the Chicago portion of the annual national “Meet, Plan, Go!” event encouraging working Americans to take career breaks and sabbaticals. She was a panelist at the third annual Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX) Conference speaking about travel video.
Mixing travel and work is one of the most rewarding experiences for this native of Randolph, New Jersey. Lisa graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. She began her television career in 1992 as an intern in New York City at WCBS-TV and “Late Night with David Letterman.” She went on to work as a director/technical director at WIS-TV, an NBC affiliate in Columbia, South Carolina, and then as promotions producer/editor at WACH-TV, a FOX affiliate, also in Columbia. She drove up to Chicago on New Year’s Day in 1998 with all her possessions (and her cat) to start her new job as a specials producer at ABC7 Chicago.
When not at one of her jobs, Lisa loves traveling and is ready to go anywhere, anytime. She has now visited 45 countries (if you count the Vatican City and Monaco) on six continents and 42 of the U.S. states. She is somewhat of a savant in matters of maps, geography, food, photography, & pop culture.
She is also active in her community, volunteering at Literacy Chicago teaching English as a second language and for PAWS (Pets Are Worth Saving) as a foster. Also a volunteer with the Chicago Greeter program, operated by the City of Chicago, Lisa gives tourists from around the world a local’s look at her favorite adopted city. When not traveling the world, she splits her time between Chicago and her home state of New Jersey. Lisa loves cheese and kittens, but not together.
